[623] On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Rājagaha, in the Bamboo Grove (Veḷuvana), the Squirrels' Feeding Ground (Kalandakanivāpa). Now on that occasion, among the royal retinue seated together and assembled in the royal palace, this conversation arose in their midst: "Gold and silver (jātarūparajata) are allowable for the ascetics who are sons of the Sakyan; the ascetics who are sons of the Sakyan consent to gold and silver; the ascetics who are sons of the Sakyan accept gold and silver."
