[654] "There, headman, as for those ascetics and brahmins who hold such a doctrine, such a view: 'Whoever kills a living being — all such persons experience suffering (dukkha) and grief in this very life' — did they speak truth or falsehood?"
"Falsehood, venerable sir."
"And those who prattle empty falsehood — are they virtuous or unvirtuous?"
"Unvirtuous, venerable sir."
"And those who are unvirtuous, of evil character — are they practicing wrongly or practicing rightly?"
"Practicing wrongly, venerable sir."
"And those who are practicing wrongly — do they hold wrong view or right view?"
"Wrong view, venerable sir."
"And as for those who hold wrong view — is it fitting to place confidence in them?"
"No indeed, venerable sir."
