[751] "Bhikkhus, I will teach you the destination (parāyana) and the path leading to the destination. Listen to that. And what, bhikkhus, is the destination? The destruction of lust (rāga), the destruction of hatred, the destruction of delusion — this, bhikkhus, is called the destination. And what, bhikkhus, is the path leading to the destination? Mindfulness directed to the body (kāyagatāsati) — this, bhikkhus, is called the path leading to the destination. Thus, bhikkhus, the destination has been taught by me to you, and the path leading to the destination has been taught. Whatever, bhikkhus, should be done by a teacher who seeks the welfare of his disciples, who is compassionate, out of compassion — that has been done for you by me. These, bhikkhus, are the roots of trees; these are empty dwellings. Meditate, bhikkhus; do not be negligent; do not be remorseful afterwards. This is our instruction to you." (This is to be expanded in detail just as the unconditioned was expanded in detail.)

The unconditioned, the uninclined, the taintless,
the truth, the far shore, the subtle, the very hard to see,
the unaging,¹ the stable, the undisintegrating,
the invisible, the unproliferated, the peaceful;
The deathless, the sublime, the auspicious, the secure,
the destruction of craving (taṇhā), the wonderful, the amazing,
the calamity-free, the state free from calamity —
this Nibbāna was taught by the Sugata.
The unafflicted and dispassion,
purity, release, non-attachment,
the island, the shelter, the protection,
the refuge, and the destination.
