[92] Then the Venerable Rādha … . Sitting to one side, the Venerable Rādha said this to the Blessed One: "It would be good, venerable sir, if the Blessed One would teach me the Dhamma in brief, so that, having heard the Dhamma from the Blessed One, I might dwell alone, withdrawn, diligent, ardent (ātāpī), and resolute."
"Rādha, whatever is impermanent — there you should abandon desire (chanda). And what, Rādha, is impermanent? The eye, Rādha, is impermanent — there you should abandon desire. Forms are impermanent. Eye-consciousness, eye-contact, and whatever feeling (vedanā) arises with eye-contact as condition — whether pleasant, painful, or neither-painful-nor-pleasant — that too is impermanent; there you should abandon desire. … The tongue … the body … the mind is impermanent — there you should abandon desire. Mental phenomena (dhammā), mind-consciousness, mind-contact, and whatever feeling arises with mind-contact as condition — whether pleasant, painful, or neither-painful-nor-pleasant — that too is impermanent; there you should abandon desire. Rādha, whatever is impermanent — there you should abandon desire."
