[1024] Bhikkhus, just as, among whatever animal creatures there are, the lion, king of beasts, is declared the foremost of them — that is, with respect to strength, speed, and valor — even so, bhikkhus, among whatever qualities there are that partake of awakening (bodhipakkhiyā dhammā), the faculty of wisdom (paññindriya) is declared the foremost of them — that is, for awakening.
