[1168] "So too, brāhmaṇa, in the case of a bhikkhu who is an arahant, one whose taints (āsava) are destroyed, who has lived the holy life, done what had to be done, laid down the burden, reached his own goal, utterly destroyed the fetters of existence, and is completely liberated through right final knowledge: the desire (chanda) that he formerly had for the attainment of arahantship — when arahantship has been attained, that corresponding desire has subsided; the energy (vīriya) that he formerly had for the attainment of arahantship — when arahantship has been attained, that corresponding energy has subsided; the mind (citta) that he formerly had for the attainment of arahantship — when arahantship has been attained, that corresponding mind has subsided; the inquiry (vīmaṃsā) that he formerly had for the attainment of arahantship — when arahantship has been attained, that corresponding inquiry has subsided."
