[1308] "And how, Bhikkhus, is mindfulness of breathing (ānāpānasati) developed, how is it cultivated, so that it is of great fruit and great benefit? Here, Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu develops the mindfulness factor of awakening (bojjhaṅga) accompanied by mindfulness of breathing, dependent on seclusion (viveka), dependent on dispassion (virāga), dependent on cessation, maturing in relinquishment (vossagga). He develops the investigation of dhammas factor of awakening accompanied by mindfulness of breathing … energy … rapture … tranquility … concentration (samādhi) … he develops the equanimity factor of awakening accompanied by mindfulness of breathing, dependent on seclusion, dependent on dispassion, dependent on cessation, maturing in relinquishment. Developed in this way, Bhikkhus, cultivated in this way, mindfulness of breathing is of great fruit and great benefit."
