[1349] Then those bhikkhus, [saying to themselves:] "The Blessed One speaks a talk on foulness (asubha) in many ways; he speaks in praise of foulness; he speaks in praise of the development of foulness (asubhabhāvanā)," dwelt devoted to the pursuit of developing foulness in its many aspects and modes. They, being troubled by, ashamed of, and disgusted with this body, sought an assassin (satthahāraka). Ten bhikkhus took the knife in a single day, twenty also … thirty bhikkhus also took the knife in a single day.
