[1547] "Suppose, Mahānāma, there were a good field, with good soil, well cleared of stumps, and the seeds were unbroken, unspoiled, undamaged by wind and sun, fertile, well stored; and the rain-cloud were to send down proper showers of rain. Would those seeds come to growth, increase, and abundance?"
"Yes, venerable sir."
"Just so, Mahānāma, here the Dhamma is well expounded, well proclaimed, emancipating (niyyānika), conducive to peace, proclaimed by a Perfectly Enlightened One — this I say is like the good field. And in that Dhamma a disciple dwells practising in accordance with the Dhamma, practising rightly, conducting himself in accordance with the Dhamma — this I say is like the good seed. How much more, then, in the case of Sarakāni the Sakyan! Mahānāma, Sarakāni the Sakyan was one who fulfilled the training at the time of death."
