[1600] "Venerable sir, is it the noble disciple (ariyasāvaka) in whom the four factors of stream-entry (sotāpattiyaṅga) are entirely and in every way, altogether and in every respect, absent — is it that noble disciple, venerable sir, who is called 'one who dwells in negligence (pamādavihārī)'?"
"Nandiya, one in whom the four factors of stream-entry are entirely and in every way, altogether and in every respect, absent — him I declare to be an outsider, one standing on the side of the worldling (puthujjana). But, Nandiya, as to how a noble disciple is one who dwells in negligence and one who dwells in diligence (appamādavihārī) — listen to that and attend carefully; I will speak."
"Yes, venerable sir," Nandiya the Sakyan replied to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said this:
