[1720] Bhikkhus, this is the forerunner, this the precursor, of the rising of the sun, namely, the break of dawn. In the same way, bhikkhus, for a bhikkhu this is the forerunner, this the precursor, of the breakthrough (abhisamaya) to the four noble truths as they really are, namely, right view (sammādiṭṭhi). It may be expected, bhikkhus, of a bhikkhu possessed of right view that he will understand as it really is: 'This is suffering (dukkha)' … that he will understand as it really is: 'This is the way of practice leading to the cessation of suffering.'
Therefore, bhikkhus, exertion should be made: 'This is suffering' … exertion should be made: 'This is the way of practice leading to the cessation of suffering.'
