[1731] Bhikkhus, there is a hell (niraya) named Mahāpariḷāha, the Great Conflagration. There, whatever form (rūpa) one sees with the eye, one sees only an undesirable form, not a desirable form; one sees only an unlovely form, not a lovely form; one sees only a disagreeable form, not an agreeable form. Whatever sound one hears with the ear … Whatever tangible object (phoṭṭhabba) one touches with the body … Whatever dhamma one cognizes with the mind, one cognizes only what is undesirable in nature, not what is desirable in nature; one cognizes only what is unlovely in nature, not what is lovely in nature; one cognizes only what is disagreeable in nature, not what is agreeable in nature.
