[2] Bhikkhus, ignorance (avijjā) is the forerunner in the entering upon unwholesome states, with shamelessness (ahirika) and lack of fear of wrongdoing (anottappa) following right behind. Bhikkhus, for an unwise person immersed in ignorance, wrong view arises; for one of wrong view, wrong intention arises; for one of wrong intention, wrong speech arises; for one of wrong speech, wrong action arises; for one of wrong action, wrong livelihood arises; for one of wrong livelihood, wrong effort arises; for one of wrong effort, wrong mindfulness arises; for one of wrong mindfulness, wrong concentration (samādhi) arises.
