[31] Setting at Sāvatthī. Then a certain bhikkhu approached the Blessed One; having approached, he paid homage to the Blessed One and sat down to one side. Sitting to one side, that bhikkhu said this to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, it is said: 'the removal of lust (rāgavinaya), the removal of hatred, the removal of delusion.' Of what, venerable sir, is this a designation: 'the removal of lust, the removal of hatred, the removal of delusion'?"
"This, bhikkhu, is a designation for the element of Nibbāna (nibbānadhātu): 'the removal of lust, the removal of hatred, the removal of delusion.' The destruction of the taints (āsava) is spoken of thereby."
