[719] "And how, Ānanda, is there development (bhāvanā) without directing the mind? Not having directed the mind (citta) externally, Ānanda, a bhikkhu understands: 'My mind is not directed externally.' Then he understands: 'It is unconstricted with respect to before and behind, liberated, undirected.' And then further he understands: 'I dwell contemplating the body in the body, ardent, clearly comprehending, mindful — I am happy.'"
