[168] There is no offence (anāpatti): if he is separated [from the robe] for six nights; if he is separated for less than six nights; if, having been separated for six nights, he again enters the village boundary (gāmasīmā), stays, and then departs; if within the six nights he withdraws the determination [of the robe]; if he gives it away; if it is lost; if it is destroyed; if it is burnt; if [others] seize it and take it¹; if [another] takes it on trust²; if he has the bhikkhus' authorization (bhikkhusammati); if he is insane; if he is the first offender (ādikammika).
