[174] **Deliberate false speech (sampajānamusāvāda)** means: the speech, the utterance, the way of speaking, the verbal expression, the verbal intimation of one intent on deceiving — the eight ignoble modes of speech (anariyavohārā), namely: saying "I saw" of what was not seen; saying "I heard" of what was not heard; saying "I sensed" of what was not sensed; saying "I cognized" of what was not cognized; saying "I did not see" of what was seen; saying "I did not hear" of what was heard; saying "I did not sense" of what was sensed; saying "I did not cognize" of what was cognized.
