[401] There is no offense (anāpatti): when [the roofing is applied in] two or three courses; when [it is applied in] less than two or three courses; in the case of a cave (leṇa); of a grotto (guhā); of a grass hut; [when building] for the sake of another; [when building] with one's own wealth; excepting a dwelling-house, in all [other structures] there is no offense; for one who is mad; for the first offender (ādikammika).
