[861] Origin at Sāvatthī. Now at that time the group-of-six (chabbaggiyā) bhikkhus taught the Dhamma to one with a weapon in his hand … "I will not teach the Dhamma to one who is not sick and has a weapon in his hand" — thus is the training to be undertaken.
"Weapon" means a bow, a crossbow. The Dhamma is not to be taught to one who is not sick and has a weapon in his hand. Whatever bhikkhu, out of disrespect, teaches the Dhamma to one who is not sick and has a weapon in his hand: an offence of wrongdoing (dukkaṭa).
There is no offence: if it is unintentional; if he is unmindful; if he does not know; if the person is sick; in emergencies; if he is mad; if he is the first offender.
The Surusuru Chapter, the Sixth, is finished.
