[151] Bhikkhus, the foremost of my lay-follower (upāsaka) disciples among those who first went for refuge are the merchants Tapussa and Bhallika. Among givers, the foremost is Sudatta the householder, Anāthapiṇḍika. Among speakers on the Dhamma, the foremost is Citta the householder of Macchikasaṇḍa. Among those who win over an assembly by the four bases of sympathy (saṅgahavatthu), the foremost is Hatthaka of Āḷavī. Among givers of what is excellent, the foremost is Mahānāma the Sakyan. Among givers of what is agreeable, the foremost is Ugga the householder of Vesālī. Among attendants of the Saṅgha, the foremost is Uggata the householder. Among those possessed of unwavering confidence, the foremost is Sūra Ambaṭṭha. Among those confident in a person, the foremost is Jīvaka Komārabhacca. Among those who are intimate, the foremost is Nakulapitā the householder.
