[291] Bhikkhus, there are these two assemblies. What two? The assembly of dregs (parisakasaṭa) and the assembly of the cream (parisamaṇḍa). And what, bhikkhus, is the assembly of dregs? Here, bhikkhus, in whatever assembly the bhikkhus take a wrong course out of desire (chandāgati), take a wrong course out of hatred (dosāgati), take a wrong course out of delusion (mohāgati), and take a wrong course out of fear (bhayāgati) — this, bhikkhus, is called the assembly of dregs. And what, bhikkhus, is the assembly of the cream? Here, bhikkhus, in whatever assembly the bhikkhus do not take a wrong course out of desire, do not take a wrong course out of hatred, do not take a wrong course out of delusion, and do not take a wrong course out of fear — this, bhikkhus, is called the assembly of the cream. These, bhikkhus, are the two assemblies. Of these two assemblies, bhikkhus, this is the foremost, namely, the assembly of the cream.
