[427] Bhikkhus, one endowed with two things dwells in suffering (dukkha). With what two? With anger (kodha) and grudging (upanāha) … with denigration (makkha) and insolence (paḷāsa) … with envy (issā) and avarice (macchariya) … with deceit (māyā) and craftiness (sāṭheyya) … with shamelessness (ahirika) and lack of moral dread (anottappa). Bhikkhus, one endowed with these two things dwells in suffering.
