[564] "Bhikkhus, in whatever quarter bhikkhus dwell given to quarrels, given to strife, fallen into disputes, stabbing one another with the daggers of the tongue (mukhasattīhi) — that quarter, bhikkhus, is not comfortable for me even to think of, let alone to go to. I come to this conclusion about it: 'Certainly those venerable ones have abandoned three dhammas and have cultivated three dhammas.' What three dhammas have they abandoned? The thought of renunciation (nekkhamma-vitakka), the thought of non-ill will (abyāpāda-vitakka), and the thought of non-harming (avihiṃsā-vitakka) — these three dhammas they have abandoned. What three dhammas have they cultivated? The thought of sensuality (kāma-vitakka), the thought of ill will (byāpāda-vitakka), and the thought of harming (vihiṃsā-vitakka) — these three dhammas they have cultivated. Bhikkhus, in whatever quarter bhikkhus dwell given to quarrels, given to strife, fallen into disputes, stabbing one another with the daggers of the tongue — that quarter, bhikkhus, is not comfortable for me even to think of, let alone to go to. "But, bhikkhus, in whatever quarter bhikkhus dwell in concord, in mutual delight, without dispute, blending like milk and water, regarding one another with eyes of affection — that quarter, bhikkhus, is comfortable for me even to go to, let alone to think of. I come to this conclusion about it: 'Certainly those venerable ones have abandoned three dhammas and have cultivated three dhammas.' What three dhammas have they abandoned? The thought of sensuality, the thought of ill will, and the thought of harming — these three dhammas they have abandoned. What three dhammas have they cultivated? The thought of renunciation, the thought of non-ill will, and the thought of non-harming — these three dhammas they have cultivated.
