[569] Then the Venerable Anuruddha approached the Blessed One; having approached and paid homage to the Blessed One, he sat down to one side. Sitting to one side, the Venerable Anuruddha said this to the Blessed One: "Here, venerable sir, with the divine eye, purified and surpassing the human, I see women, for the most part, on the breakup of the body, after death, being reborn in a state of loss (apāya), a bad destination, the lower world, hell. Possessed of how many qualities (dhammas), venerable sir, is a woman, on the breakup of the body, after death, reborn in a state of loss, a bad destination, the lower world, hell?"
"Possessed of three qualities, Anuruddha, a woman, on the breakup of the body, after death, is reborn in a state of loss, a bad destination, the lower world, hell. What three? Here, Anuruddha, in the morning a woman dwells at home with a mind (citta) obsessed by the stain of miserliness; at midday she dwells at home with a mind obsessed by envy; in the evening she dwells at home with a mind obsessed by sensual lust (kāmarāga). Possessed of these three qualities, Anuruddha, a woman, on the breakup of the body, after death, is reborn in a state of loss, a bad destination, the lower world, hell."
