[595] [156] "Bhikkhus, those beings who in the morning engage in good conduct (sucarita) by body, engage in good conduct by speech, and engage in good conduct by mind — for those beings, bhikkhus, it is a good morning. Bhikkhus, those beings who at midday engage in good conduct by body, engage in good conduct by speech, and engage in good conduct by mind — for those beings, bhikkhus, it is a good midday. Bhikkhus, those beings who in the evening engage in good conduct by body, engage in good conduct by speech, and engage in good conduct by mind — for those beings, bhikkhus, it is a good evening." A good star, a good auspice (sumaṅgalaṃ), a good daybreak, a good rising;¹ a good moment and a good hour, a good offering made to those who live the holy life (brahmacārī). Auspicious (padakkhiṇa) is the bodily action, auspicious the verbal action, auspicious the mental action, auspicious are your aspirations;²·³ having done what is auspicious, they obtain auspicious benefits. Having obtained those benefits, happy, grown up in the Buddha's teaching, may you be free from disease and happy, together with all your relatives. The Chapter on Auspiciousness (Maṅgalavagga), the fifth. Its summary (uddāna): The unwholesome and the blameworthy, together with the uneven and the impure, the four on the ruined, and homage, with the good morning — these are the ten. The Third Set of Fifty is completed. Discourses not included in the Sets of Fifty.
