[120] Bhikkhus, there are these four perils (bhaya). Which four? The peril of fire (aggibhaya), the peril of water, the peril of kings, and the peril of thieves. These, bhikkhus, are the four perils.

Kesī, Speed (Java), the Goad (Patoda),
the Nāga, with Occasion (Ṭhāna) as the fifth;
Heedlessness (Appamāda) and Protection (Ārakkha),
that which inspires urgency (saṃvejanīya), and the two on Perils.
