[15] Bhikkhus, there are these four designations of the foremost. Which four? Bhikkhus, this is the foremost of those possessing personal existence, namely, Rāhu, lord of the asuras. This is the foremost of those who enjoy sensual pleasures, namely, King Mandhātā. This is the foremost of those who exercise supremacy, namely, Māra the Evil One. In the world with its devas, with its Māra, with its Brahmā, in this generation with its ascetics and brahmins, with its devas and humans, the Tathāgata is declared the foremost — the Worthy One, the Perfectly Enlightened One. These, bhikkhus, are the four designations of the foremost.
Rāhu is foremost of those possessing personal existence;
Mandhātā, of those who enjoy sensual pleasures;
Māra, of those who exercise supremacy.
Blazing with power and glory,
above, across, and below,
as far as the world extends,
in the world with its devas
the Buddha is declared the foremost.
