[182] Bhikkhus, there are four things for which there is no guarantor (pāṭibhoga) — no ascetic or brahmin, no deity or Māra or Brahmā, nor anyone in the world. Which four? "That which is subject to aging — may it not age!": for this there is no guarantor — no ascetic or brahmin, no deity or Māra or Brahmā, nor anyone in the world. "That which is subject to illness — may it not fall ill!": for this there is no guarantor — no ascetic or brahmin, no deity or Māra or Brahmā, nor anyone in the world. "That which is subject to death — may it not die!": for this there is no guarantor — no ascetic or brahmin, no deity or Māra or Brahmā, nor anyone in the world. And as for those evil actions — defiled, leading to renewed existence, attended by distress, ripening in suffering (dukkha), issuing in future birth, aging, and death — "May their result not come to be!": for this there is no guarantor — no ascetic or brahmin, no deity or Māra or Brahmā, nor anyone in the world. These, bhikkhus, are the four things for which there is no guarantor — no ascetic or brahmin, no deity or Māra or Brahmā, nor anyone in the world.
