[60] Then Anāthapiṇḍika the householder approached the Blessed One; having approached, he paid homage to the Blessed One and sat down to one side. As Anāthapiṇḍika the householder sat to one side, the Blessed One said this to him: "Householder, a noble disciple (ariyasāvaka) possessed of four dhammas is one practicing the way of practice proper to a householder (gihisāmīcipaṭipadā), a practice that brings the attainment of fame and leads to heaven. Which four? Here, householder, a noble disciple attends upon the Saṅgha of bhikkhus with robes; he attends upon the Saṅgha of bhikkhus with almsfood; he attends upon the Saṅgha of bhikkhus with lodging; he attends upon the Saṅgha of bhikkhus with medicinal requisites for the sick. Possessed of these four dhammas, householder, a noble disciple is one practicing the way of practice proper to a householder, a practice that brings the attainment of fame and leads to heaven."
The wise practice the way of practice proper to a householder:
attending upon the virtuous ones who have gone rightly
with robes, with almsfood, with lodging,
and with requisites for the sick.
For them, by day and by night, merit ever grows;
and having done a good deed,
one passes on to the heavenly abode.

Two on the streams of merit, two on living together,
and two are on those living in harmony;
Suppavāsā and Sudatta,
food, and what is proper to a householder.
