[134] Bhikkhus, an anointed khattiya king endowed with five factors, in whatever quarter he dwells, dwells in his own conquered realm. With what five? Here, bhikkhus, an anointed khattiya king is well born on both sides, of the mother's side and the father's side, of pure descent as far back as the seventh generation of paternal ancestors, unimpeached and irreproachable with respect to birth. He is rich, of great wealth, of great possessions, with treasury and granary full. He is strong, endowed with a fourfold army that is obedient and carries out his commands. His counselor is wise, competent, intelligent, capable of considering matters past, future, and present. These four qualities bring his fame to maturity. Endowed with this quality having fame as the fifth, in whatever quarter he dwells, he dwells in his own conquered realm. For what reason? Because, bhikkhus, so it is for conquerors.
Even so, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu endowed with five qualities, in whatever quarter he dwells, dwells with a liberated mind (citta). With what five? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu is virtuous … he trains in the training rules — just as the anointed khattiya king is accomplished in birth. He is learned … well penetrated by view — just as the anointed khattiya king is rich, of great wealth, of great possessions, with treasury and granary full. He dwells with energy (vīriya) aroused for the abandoning of unwholesome qualities and for the acquiring of wholesome qualities; he is strong, firm in exertion, not shirking the responsibility with regard to wholesome qualities — just as the anointed khattiya king is accomplished in strength. He is wise, endowed with wisdom that discerns rise and fall, which is noble, penetrative, leading rightly to the complete destruction of suffering (dukkha) — just as the anointed khattiya king is accomplished in a counselor. These four qualities bring liberation (vimutti) to maturity. Endowed with this quality having liberation as the fifth, in whatever quarter he dwells, he dwells with a liberated mind. For what reason? Because, bhikkhus, so it is for those whose minds are liberated.
