[165] There the Venerable Sāriputta addressed the bhikkhus … "Whoever, friends, asks another a question does so entirely on these five grounds, or on one or another of them. On which five? One asks another a question out of dullness and stupidity; one of evil desires (pāpiccha), overcome by desire, asks another a question; one asks another a question out of contempt; one asks another a question desiring to know; or else one asks another a question with a mind thus: 'If, when asked a question by me, he answers rightly, that is good; but if, when asked a question by me, he does not answer rightly, I myself shall answer it rightly for him.' Whoever, friends, asks another a question does so entirely on these five grounds, or on one or another of them. But I, friends, ask another a question with a mind thus: 'If, when asked a question by me, he answers rightly, that is good; but if, when asked a question by me, he does not answer rightly, I myself shall answer it rightly for him.'"
