[369] Bhikkhus, that a bhikkhu contemplating any conditioned thing (saṅkhāra) as permanent will be one endowed with acceptance in conformity (anulomikā khanti) — this is not possible. That one not endowed with acceptance in conformity will enter upon the fixed course of rightness (sammattaniyāma) — this is not possible. That one not entering upon the fixed course of rightness will realize the Fruition of Stream-Entry, the Fruition of Once-Returning, the Fruition of Non-Returning, or arahantship — this is not possible.
Bhikkhus, that a bhikkhu contemplating all conditioned things as impermanent will be one endowed with acceptance in conformity — this is possible. That one endowed with acceptance in conformity will enter upon the fixed course of rightness — this is possible. That one entering upon the fixed course of rightness will realize the Fruition of Stream-Entry, the Fruition of Once-Returning, the Fruition of Non-Returning, or arahantship — this is possible.
