[86] Bhikkhus, an elder bhikkhu who possesses five qualities is dear and agreeable to his fellows in the holy life (sabrahmacārī), respected and esteemed. Which five? He has attained the analytic insight of meanings (attha-paṭisambhidā); he has attained the analytic insight of dhammas (dhamma-paṭisambhidā); he has attained the analytic insight of language (nirutti-paṭisambhidā); he has attained the analytic insight of ready wit (paṭibhāṇa-paṭisambhidā); and whatever various duties there are to be done for his fellows in the holy life, therein he is skilful and not lazy, possessed of investigation (vīmaṃsā) into the means suitable to them, able to do them, able to arrange them.
