[194] [104] Bhikkhus, if it wishes, the Saṅgha may overturn the bowl (pattaṃ nikkujjeyya) against a lay follower (upāsaka) who possesses eight factors. What eight? He strives for the loss of gains for the bhikkhus; he strives for the harm of the bhikkhus; he strives for the non-residence of the bhikkhus; he abuses and reviles bhikkhus; he sows division among the bhikkhus; he speaks dispraise of the Buddha; he speaks dispraise of the Dhamma; he speaks dispraise of the Saṅgha. Bhikkhus, if it wishes, the Saṅgha may overturn the bowl against a lay follower who possesses these eight factors.
