[225] Bhikkhus, in three respects the humans of Uttarakuru surpass the devas of Tāvatiṃsa and the humans of Jambudīpa. In which three? They are without selfishness and without possessiveness (amamā apariggahā); their lifespan is fixed (niyatāyukā); and they enjoy exceptional conditions (visesabhuno). In these three respects, bhikkhus, the humans of Uttarakuru surpass the devas of Tāvatiṃsa and the humans of Jambudīpa.
Bhikkhus, in three respects the devas of Tāvatiṃsa surpass the humans of Uttarakuru and the humans of Jambudīpa. In which three? In celestial lifespan, in celestial beauty, and in celestial happiness. In these three respects, bhikkhus, the devas of Tāvatiṃsa surpass the humans of Uttarakuru and the humans of Jambudīpa.
Bhikkhus, in three respects the humans of Jambudīpa surpass the humans of Uttarakuru and the devas of Tāvatiṃsa. In which three? They are courageous; they are mindful; and here there is the living of the holy life (brahmacariya). In these three respects, bhikkhus, the humans of Jambudīpa surpass the humans of Uttarakuru and the devas of Tāvatiṃsa.
