[230] "Bhikkhus, a cowherd possessed of eleven factors is capable of maintaining a herd of cattle and making it prosper. Which eleven? Here, bhikkhus, a cowherd knows form … In just the same way, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu possessed of eleven qualities is indeed capable of dwelling contemplating impermanence in the eye … capable of dwelling contemplating relinquishment."
"Bhikkhus, for the direct knowledge (abhiññā) of lust (rāga), eleven qualities should be developed. Which eleven? The first jhāna, the second jhāna, the third jhāna, the fourth jhāna, the liberation of mind (cetovimutti) through loving-kindness, the liberation of mind through compassion, the liberation of mind through altruistic joy, the liberation of mind through equanimity, the sphere of infinity of space (ākāsānañcāyatana), the sphere of infinity of consciousness (viññāṇañcāyatana), and the sphere of nothingness (ākiñcaññāyatana). Bhikkhus, for the direct knowledge of lust, these eleven qualities should be developed."
