[38] "But, venerable sir, having split a Saṅgha (saṅgha) that is in concord, what does one generate?"
"Ānanda, one generates evil (kibbisa) lasting an aeon (kappa)."
"But what, venerable sir, is the evil lasting an aeon?"
"Ānanda, one is tormented in hell (niraya) for an aeon."
Bound for the states of loss, bound for hell,
abiding there for an aeon, is the one who causes schism in the Saṅgha;
delighting in faction, established in what is not Dhamma,
he falls away from security from bondage (yogakkhema);
having split a Saṅgha in concord,
he is tormented in hell for an aeon.
