[90] Then the Venerable Sāriputta approached the Blessed One; having approached and paid homage to the Blessed One, he sat down to one side. As the Venerable Sāriputta was seated to one side, the Blessed One said this to him: "Sāriputta, how many powers does a bhikkhu whose taints are destroyed (khīṇāsava) possess, endowed with which powers a bhikkhu whose taints are destroyed claims the destruction of the taints (āsava): 'My taints are destroyed'?"
"Venerable sir, there are ten powers of a bhikkhu whose taints are destroyed, endowed with which powers a bhikkhu whose taints are destroyed claims the destruction of the taints: 'My taints are destroyed.' What are the ten?
"Here, venerable sir, by a bhikkhu whose taints are destroyed, all conditioned things (saṅkhārā) have been well seen as they really are (yathābhūta) with right wisdom as impermanent. Venerable sir, that all conditioned things have been well seen as they really are with right wisdom as impermanent by a bhikkhu whose taints are destroyed — this too, venerable sir, is a power of a bhikkhu whose taints are destroyed, relying on which power a bhikkhu whose taints are destroyed claims the destruction of the taints: 'My taints are destroyed.'
"Furthermore, venerable sir, by a bhikkhu whose taints are destroyed, sensual pleasures have been well seen as they really are with right wisdom as similar to a pit of glowing embers. Venerable sir, that sensual pleasures have been well seen as they really are with right wisdom as similar to a pit of glowing embers by a bhikkhu whose taints are destroyed — this too, venerable sir, is a power of a bhikkhu whose taints are destroyed, relying on which power a bhikkhu whose taints are destroyed claims the destruction of the taints: 'My taints are destroyed.'
"Furthermore, venerable sir, the mind (citta) of a bhikkhu whose taints are destroyed slants toward seclusion (viveka), slopes toward seclusion, inclines toward seclusion, stands in seclusion, delights in renunciation (nekkhamma), and is entirely finished with those things that are a basis for the taints. Venerable sir, that the mind of a bhikkhu whose taints are destroyed slants toward seclusion, slopes toward seclusion, inclines toward seclusion, stands in seclusion, delights in renunciation, and is entirely finished with those things that are a basis for the taints — this too, venerable sir, is a power of a bhikkhu whose taints are destroyed, relying on which power a bhikkhu whose taints are destroyed claims the destruction of the taints: 'My taints are destroyed.'
"Furthermore, venerable sir, by a bhikkhu whose taints are destroyed, the four establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna) have been developed and well developed. Venerable sir, that the four establishments of mindfulness have been developed and well developed by a bhikkhu whose taints are destroyed — this too, venerable sir, is a power of a bhikkhu whose taints are destroyed, relying on which power a bhikkhu whose taints are destroyed claims the destruction of the taints: 'My taints are destroyed.'
"Furthermore, venerable sir, by a bhikkhu whose taints are destroyed, the four right strivings have been developed and well developed … the four bases of spiritual power have been developed and well developed … the five faculties and the five powers have been developed and well developed … the seven factors of awakening (bojjhaṅga) have been developed and well developed … the noble eightfold path (magga) has been developed and well developed. Venerable sir, that the noble eightfold path has been developed and well developed by a bhikkhu whose taints are destroyed — this too, venerable sir, is a power of a bhikkhu whose taints are destroyed, relying on which power a bhikkhu whose taints are destroyed claims the destruction of the taints: 'My taints are destroyed.'
"These, venerable sir, are the ten powers of a bhikkhu whose taints are destroyed, endowed with which powers a bhikkhu whose taints are destroyed claims the destruction of the taints: 'My taints are destroyed.'"
