[2] I undertake the training rule (sikkhāpada) of abstinence (veramaṇī) from the destruction of life (pāṇātipāta). I undertake the training rule of abstinence from taking what is not given (adinnādāna). I undertake the training rule of abstinence from unchastity (abrahmacariya). I undertake the training rule of abstinence from false speech (musāvāda). I undertake the training rule of abstinence from spirits and fermented liquor—intoxicants that are a basis for heedlessness (surāmerayamajjapamādaṭṭhāna). I undertake the training rule of abstinence from eating at the wrong time (vikālabhojana). I undertake the training rule of abstinence from dancing, singing, instrumental music, and watching unsuitable shows (naccagītavāditavisūkadassana).
