[221] 6. This indeed was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant — so I have heard:
"Bhikkhus, there is an unborn, an unbecome, an unmade, an unconditioned (asaṅkhata). If, bhikkhus, there were not that unborn, unbecome, unmade, unconditioned, no escape (nissaraṇa) here from the born, the become, the made, the conditioned would be discerned. But because, bhikkhus, there is an unborn, an unbecome, an unmade, an unconditioned, therefore an escape from the born, the become, the made, the conditioned can be discerned."
The Blessed One spoke this meaning. In that connection this is said:
The born, the become, the arisen, the made, the conditioned, the unstable,
compounded of aging and death (jarāmaraṇa), a nest of disease, perishable,
sprung from nutriment and the conduit (netti) — it is not fit to delight in that.
The escape from that is peaceful, beyond the sphere of reasoning, stable,
unborn, unarisen, the sorrowless, stainless state,
the cessation (nirodha) of states of suffering (dukkha), the stilling of formations (saṅkhāra) — bliss.
This meaning, too, was spoken by the Blessed One; so I have heard.
