[223] 8. This indeed was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant, so I have heard:
"Bhikkhus, dwell delighting in seclusion (paṭisallāna), taking delight in seclusion, inwardly devoted to serenity of mind (cetosamatha), not neglecting jhāna, endowed with insight (vipassanā), cultivators of empty dwellings (suññāgāra). Bhikkhus, for those who dwell delighting in seclusion, taking delight in seclusion, inwardly devoted to serenity of mind, not neglecting jhāna, endowed with insight, cultivators of empty dwellings, one of two fruits is to be expected: final knowledge (aññā) in this very life or, if there is a residue of clinging (upādisesa), the state of a non-returner (anāgāmitā)."
The Blessed One spoke this meaning. Concerning this, it is said:
"Those whose minds (citta) are at peace, who are prudent,
possessed of mindfulness (sati) and meditative,
rightly see the Dhamma with insight,
without longing for sensual pleasures.
Delighting in heedfulness (appamāda), at peace,
seeing danger in heedlessness,
they are incapable of decline:
they are close indeed to Nibbāna."
This meaning too was spoken by the Blessed One; so I have heard.
