[226] 11. This indeed was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant — so I have heard:
"Bhikkhus, these two are bound for the plane of misery (āpāyika), bound for hell (nerayika), if they do not abandon this [conduct]. Which two? One who, not living the holy life (abrahmacārī), claims to be one who lives the holy life (brahmacārī); and one who charges a person living the holy life (brahmacariya), complete and pure, with groundless unchastity (abrahmacariya). These, bhikkhus, are the two bound for the plane of misery, bound for hell, if they do not abandon this [conduct]."
The Blessed One spoke this meaning. In this connection it is said:
"The speaker of untruth goes to hell (niraya),
and so does one who, having done a deed, says, 'I did not do it';
both of these, when they have passed away, become equal —
humans of base deeds in the world beyond.
Many with the ochre robe (kāsāva) about the neck,
of evil character, unrestrained —
those evil ones, through their evil deeds,
are reborn in hell.
Better that a ball of iron be eaten,
glowing hot, like a flame of fire,
than that one immoral and unrestrained
should eat the almsfood of the country."
This meaning too was spoken by the Blessed One — so I have heard.
