[228] 1. This indeed was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant — so I have heard:
"Bhikkhus, there are these three unwholesome roots (akusalamūla). What three? Greed (lobha) is an unwholesome root; hatred (dosa) is an unwholesome root; delusion (moha) is an unwholesome root. These, bhikkhus, are the three unwholesome roots."
The Blessed One spoke this meaning. In this connection it is said:
"Greed, hatred, and delusion,
arisen from within himself,
injure the man of evil mind,
as its own fruit destroys the bamboo."
This meaning too was spoken by the Blessed One — so I have heard. The First.
