[255] 8. This was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant, so I have heard:
"Bhikkhus, this body is breaking up; consciousness (viññāṇa) is of a nature to fade away; all acquisitions (upadhi) are impermanent, suffering (dukkha), of a nature to change."
The Blessed One spoke this meaning. In this connection it is said:
"Having known the body as breaking up,
and consciousness as perishable,
having seen peril in acquisitions,
one has gone beyond birth and death;
having attained the supreme peace,
with self developed, one awaits the time."
This meaning too was spoken by the Blessed One; so I have heard.
