[266] 8. "Bhikkhus, there are these three unwholesome thoughts (akusalavitakkā), causing blindness, causing lack of vision, causing lack of knowledge (aññāṇa), bringing about the cessation (nirodha) of wisdom (paññā), siding with vexation (vighāta), not conducing to Nibbāna. What three? Thought of sensual pleasures (kāmavitakka), bhikkhus, causes blindness, causes lack of vision, causes lack of knowledge, brings about the cessation of wisdom, sides with vexation, and does not conduce to Nibbāna. Thought of ill will (byāpādavitakka), bhikkhus, causes blindness, causes lack of vision, causes lack of knowledge, brings about the cessation of wisdom, sides with vexation, and does not conduce to Nibbāna. Thought of harming (vihiṃsāvitakka), bhikkhus, causes blindness, causes lack of vision, causes lack of knowledge, brings about the cessation of wisdom, sides with vexation, and does not conduce to Nibbāna. These indeed, bhikkhus, are the three unwholesome thoughts, causing blindness, causing lack of vision, causing lack of knowledge, bringing about the cessation of wisdom, siding with vexation, not conducing to Nibbāna."
