[274] Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu should examine in such a way that, as he examines, his consciousness (viññāṇa) is not scattered and not diffused externally, and is not settled internally; and so that for him — unagitated through not clinging — there is in the future no production of the origin (samudaya) of suffering (dukkha): of birth (jāti), aging (jarā), and death (maraṇa).
For the bhikkhu who has abandoned the seven ties (saṅga), whose conduit has been cut,
the round of births is utterly exhausted: there is for him no renewed existence.
