[276] 7. Bhikkhus, one who is yoked by the yoke of sensual pleasures (kāmayoga) and yoked by the yoke of existence (bhavayoga) is a returner (āgāmī), one who comes back to this state of being (itthatta). Bhikkhus, one who is unyoked from the yoke of sensual pleasures but still yoked by the yoke of existence is a non-returner (anāgāmī), one who does not come back to this state of being. Bhikkhus, one who is unyoked from the yoke of sensual pleasures and unyoked from the yoke of existence is an arahant (arahaṃ), one whose taints (āsava) are destroyed. Yoked by the yoke of sensual pleasures and by the yoke of existence — by both — beings go on to saṃsāra, which leads to birth and death. But those who have abandoned sensual pleasures yet have not attained the destruction of the taints, still yoked by the yoke of existence, are called non-returners. But those who have cut off doubt, whose conceit and renewed existence are destroyed — they truly have gone beyond in the world, they who have attained the destruction of the taints. The seventh. [5]
