[433] 9. "He in whom sensual pleasures (kāmā) do not dwell," (thus said the venerable Todeyya,)
"in whom craving (taṇhā) is not found,
and who has crossed over doubt —
of what kind is his liberation (vimokkha)?"
"He in whom sensual pleasures do not dwell," ("Todeyya," said the Blessed One,)
"in whom craving is not found,
and who has crossed over doubt —
for him there is no other liberation."
[Todeyya:]
"Is he free of longing, or is he one who still longs?
Is he possessed of wisdom (paññāṇavā), or one who forms conceivings by means of wisdom (paññakappī)?
O Sakyan, that I may know the sage (muni),
explain him to me, O All-seeing One (samantacakkhu)."
[The Blessed One:]
"He is free of longing, nor is he one who longs;
he is possessed of wisdom, not one who forms conceivings by means of wisdom.
Thus too, Todeyya, should you know the sage:
one who has nothing, unattached to sensuality and existence (kāmabhava)."
