[81] The Blessed One heard — with the divine ear-element (dibbā sotadhātu), purified and surpassing the human — Sakka, lord of the devas, as, having risen up into the sky, he uttered three times, in the air, in the firmament, this inspired utterance (udāna):
"Oh, the gift, the supreme gift, is well established in Kassapa!
Oh, the gift, the supreme gift, is well established in Kassapa!"
Then the Blessed One, having understood the meaning of this, on that occasion uttered this inspired utterance:
"The devas envy the bhikkhu
who lives on almsfood (piṇḍapātika),
who supports himself, nourishing no other —
the steadfast one (tādī), calmed, ever mindful."
