"And this lotus pond of yours, so delightful —
level, with fine fords, and abounding in water,
in full flower, thronged with swarms of bees —
how was this pleasing pond obtained by you?
And this mango grove of yours, so delightful,
which bears its fruits in every season,
in full flower, thronged with swarms of bees —
how was this mansion (vimāna) obtained by you?"
"Ripe mangoes and water, rice gruel,
cool shade delighting the mind:
through the gift given by my daughter —
by that, this is obtained by me here."
"See the result — truly to be seen for oneself —
of giving (dāna), of self-control (dama), of restraint (saṃyama):
having been a slave-woman in the families of my masters,
I am now a daughter-in-law, mistress of the house."
"The disagreeable in the guise of the agreeable,
the unloved in the guise of the loved,
suffering (dukkha) in the guise of happiness —
these overwhelm the one who is heedless."
